A PANOPLY OF SOUNDS
The title Impression A.I. is an oxymoron referencing modern technologies and trying to get closer to a different music format, relating to people’s new attention span influenced by phones and social media (in particular Tik Toks and Instagram stories). It refers to painterly impressionism, nonetheless the album is made up of pieces that span from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, a sprawling mosaic of songs, each of which resembles an instant photograph of a particular, resonant moment.
The cover, featuring Damien Hirst’s angelic sculpture, was taken by the composer represents an angel, an ideal Evangelion trying to elevate itself against the music industry gatekeepers and streaming services’ payment methods.
The album was recorded over the course of 18 months in a home studio between London and Italy. Impression A.I. changes continuously, and its main genres can be considered Alternative Rock, Electronic, spoken word. Much of the album was conjured from a Roli keyboard and its proprietary synthesisers, Equator and Strobe, alongside a Vocoder, digital and acoustic drums, Fender guitars, an out-of-tune piano, a kazoo and more than 50 different stomp boxes and pedals, lashed together in every conceivable way.
